This meditation is designed to help you drift into deep rest, even if you’re only reading and not listening. Each line is written to guide you softly, at your own pace, into stillness. Read slowly, pause often, and let the words become a quiet space where the weight of the day can fall away.

Arrival

Take a moment to soften your gaze, or close your eyes if that feels right.
This is your time to rest. Your time to release. Your time to let the day fall away.

Begin by noticing your breath, not trying to change it, just greeting it.
The air arrives, the air leaves, without needing you to force or control.
With every exhale, imagine a little bit of the day drifting out of you.
With every inhale, imagine you’re filling yourself with quiet.

Let your shoulders lower, as though someone has gently pressed them down into comfort.
Let your jaw loosen, your brow smooth.
You don’t need to hold anything together right now.
It is safe to let go.

Grounding

Feel where your body meets the surface beneath you.
Whether you are in a bed, a chair, or a quiet corner, allow yourself to be carried.
The ground is steady. It holds you fully. You don’t need to hold yourself up.
Notice the weight of your arms. Notice the heaviness of your legs.
Notice the way stillness begins to gather around you like a soft blanket.

Breath as a Lullaby

Now, slow the breath just a little.
Count gently: Inhale to the count of four.
Hold the breath softly at the top, without strain.
Exhale to the count of six, letting the air fall away like a sigh.
Pause at the bottom, empty and calm.
Repeat this rhythm, like a lullaby sung from within.

With each inhale, imagine you are breathing in quiet moonlight.
With each exhale, imagine a thread of tension leaving your body.
A tiny release, like loosening a knot.
Your breath becomes the rocking chair, the cradle, the gentle sway.
You are safe to be carried by its rhythm.

Notice how the body begins to respond —
how the shoulders lower a little more,
how the chest softens,
how the weight of the day begins to dissolve.
Stay with this rocking breath, as long as it feels soothing.

Releasing the Day

If thoughts arrive — plans, memories, worries — let them drift by like leaves on water.
Some may float close. Some may linger at the edges.
You don’t need to chase them.
You don’t need to catch them.

Imagine setting today in a basket and placing it gently on the river.
Watch it float, carried away by the current.
You don’t have to solve anything right now.
You don’t have to carry anything forward.

Say softly in your mind: Not now. I am resting.
Feel the relief of those words.
Notice the way your body responds when you give it permission to let go.
Return to your breath.
Return to the softness.
Tonight, you are free.

Body Scan of Rest

Bring your attention to the crown of your head.
Imagine a soft wave of rest flowing down, smoothing your scalp, loosening your temples.
It trickles across your eyes, heavy with ease,
glides down your cheeks, into your jaw, releasing what’s tight.

The wave drifts into your neck.
Notice the muscles that hold your head all day, finally unclenching.
It spills across your shoulders, arms, and hands.
Imagine your hands warm and heavy, as though cradled in sand.

Now the wave moves through your chest, your belly, your back.
Each breath deepens the release.
Your heartbeat slows, steady and calm.
Your whole torso softens into rest.

The wave reaches your hips, your thighs, your knees.
Feel your legs giving up the work of standing,
sinking into stillness.
It flows into your calves, your ankles, and your feet.
Imagine your feet planted in a meadow of soft grass,
completely supported, completely at ease.

From the crown of your head to the tips of your toes,
you are wrapped in gentle stillness.
The body knows how to rest when you allow it.

Imagery of Rest

Picture yourself lying beneath a night sky.
The stars are scattered like tiny lanterns above you.
Some glimmer bright, some pulse gently, like they’re breathing with you.
The air is cool, scented faintly with earth and grass.
The world around you is hushed, a perfect stillness.

A breeze moves slowly across your skin,
as though the night itself is brushing away anything heavy you’ve carried.
Worries, expectations, exhaustion —
all lifted, all swept into the sky.

The night sky leans close,
whispering: You are safe. You are loved. You can rest now.
Feel those words as truth.
Sink into them like a bed that knows your shape.

Let the stars hold watch while you let go.
Let the earth cradle you in its quiet strength.
And in this moment, know that it is enough simply to be here, resting.

Closing

Stay here as long as you wish.
No rush to leave. No need to return until you are ready.
When you do return, know the quiet is still within you.
Know that you can come back here any time you need.

Rest is not something you have to earn.
It is your right. It is your gift.
So let yourself receive it fully tonight.
